In order to focus on his studies, the honest and dull mathematician David Sumner (played by Dustin Hoffman) returns to an old house in the English countryside with his wife Amy (played by Susan George). Amy's sexy and bold attire attracts the crude gazes of the village men, while David's seemingly weak appearance emboldens them. One day, under the guise of hunting, they lure David out of the house and then gang-rape Amy. Faced with such humiliation, David can only force a smile. One night, the dimwitted Nils accidentally kills the girl he likes. In a panic, he escapes into David's house. The angry villagers demand that David hand over Nils, and after being refused, they attempt to break in. Furious, David can no longer tolerate the situation and goes on a rampage...
