The story takes place in a dimly lit, sparsely populated theater where the playwright Thomas (played by Mathieu Amalric) is searching for a suitable leading lady for his adapted script "Venus in Fur." The actresses he interviews leave him disappointed, as they are nothing like the perfect goddess he envisions. Just when Thomas is about to leave empty-handed, a drenched and downtrodden woman bursts into the theater. The woman’s name is Wanda (played by Emmanuelle Seigner), and coincidentally, she shares the same name as the female lead in Thomas's script. However, Wanda's rude behavior and superficial knowledge lead Thomas to secretly dismiss her. To his surprise, Wanda possesses the entire script and has brought her own costume. After Wanda's persistent requests, Thomas agrees to her audition and performs with her. Thus, amidst the pouring rain, a compelling play about men and women, commands and obedience begins.
