In 1940, Churchill established a new intelligence organization called the Special Operations Executive, abbreviated as SOE. One of its branches was responsible for overseeing operations in France. In 1944, to ensure the success of the Allied landings, this branch paid a heavy price. Louise (played by Sophie Marceau) has just lost her husband and is brought back to France by her brother to join the SOE. Her mission is to rescue a British geologist who has fallen into enemy hands—he possesses plans of the German defenses laid out in Normandy, which are crucial to the Allied landings. Joining Louise in the fight are several other women. Prostitute Jeanne (played by Julie Depardieu) was sentenced to death for killing a client, and the SOE promises her immunity if she completes her mission. Suzy and Gaëlle, who join later, also have their own tragic pasts. As they contribute their intelligence for the Allies, will they succeed in their mission and make it out alive?
