Billy (played by Jamie Bell) comes from a working-class family of miners in the UK. They participate in strikes, struggling in poverty, and believe that Billy should learn some masculine boxing skills. Billy initially goes to a boxing class once a week, but a chance encounter leads him down a different path. Due to a small accident, Billy discovers his subconscious love for ballet, and the discerning ballet teacher Mrs. Wilkinson (played by Julie Walters) accidentally discovers Billy's exceptional talent for ballet. The two hit it off, and Mrs. Wilkinson even gives up her entire class of female students to focus on training little Billy. However, Billy's family completely fails to understand why their son has fallen in love with something feminine. Faced with his family's opposition, Billy makes a painful decision. Nevertheless, a great opportunity is at hand. If he gets accepted into the Royal Ballet School in London, Billy's ballet dream will have a vast stage. Billy stands at a crossroads, choosing his life.
