Wong Ching-wai (played by Anthony Wong) is an avant-garde Hong Kong director from the 1990s, who looks down on Cantonese films from the 1960s. Unexpectedly, he travels back in time to the 1960s, where he is informed by the renowned director Chor Yuen that he can return home if he manages to make a popular film in the 60s. Although Wong Ching-wai is quite helpless, he meets the yet-to-be-famous duo Li Chi (played by Joe Lee) and Che Xuan (played by Anthony Chan). Due to Wong Ching-wai's unique identity, he helps the two rise to fame. Both of their girlfriends, Baozhu (played by Jessica Hsuan) and Fangfang (played by Shu Qi), fall for Wong Ching-wai and admire his talent. Upon discovering this, Li Chi and Che Xuan sever ties with Wong Ching-wai. The film Wong is making is completely unappreciated by anyone. Will he be able to return to his own time?
