Nora (Parker Posey) is a successful career woman in Manhattan at 35 years old—she is the customer service manager at a luxury hotel. Although she is sharp and can see through the needs of her guests at a glance, she has never been able to find her own love. She is completely hopeless when it comes to handling relationships. Nora once had a fling with a hotel guest—star Nick—but when she was filled with hope, she realized that he was merely experiencing life with her for the sake of a performance. After a series of failed "first dates," a disheartened Nora meets Julian (Melvil Poupaud), a Frenchman who speaks broken English. Their feelings quickly intensify, but Julian is soon returning to France and invites Nora to "escape" with him. However, having faced repeated setbacks in love, Nora suddenly loses her confidence and declines Julian. After Julian returns home, Nora realizes that she can no longer forget this man. So, she decides to go to Paris accompanied by her friends.
