In 1992, the North American Free Trade Agreement was signed and came into effect. Many large companies rushed to set up factories in the border towns of Mexico adjacent to the United States, employing local cheap labor to mass-produce goods and flood the U.S. market. These factories are known as "Maquiladoras," where local women work tirelessly for meager wages, often returning home late at night or in the early morning. During these dangerous and desolate hours, many women suffer from assaults and murders. The serial murders of Maquiladora women garnered widespread attention amidst the chaos of Juárez. To secure a foreign correspondent position, journalist Lauren (played by Jennifer Lopez) begins to investigate the series of murders in Juárez. In the process, she encounters Eve (played by Maya Zapata), a girl who narrowly escaped death, thus intertwining their fates... This film is based on true events.
