In 1968, Dagenham, England. The Ford manufacturing plant is undoubtedly a leader among private enterprises in Britain. However, in the male-dominated automobile industry, the status of women is particularly low. 187 female sewing workers labored sweatily in extremely harsh factory conditions, sewing car seat covers. The dirty and stuffy work environment, the incredibly long working hours, and most importantly, their wages were unfairly suppressed due to their gender. Yet, to maintain the most basic living expenses, these workers endured this unfair treatment. Finally, they decided to take to the streets with banners, going on strike to protest the gender discrimination they faced at work, demanding equal pay for equal work. Rita O'Grady (Sally Hawkins) is undoubtedly the leader in this struggle for women's rights. With extraordinary courage and relentless attempts, Rita led many female workers on the path to securing their rights. Soon, this strike swept across the whole of Britain, becoming the catalyst for the enactment of the "Equal Pay Act" against gender discrimination.
