Many years ago, in a remote place in China, a blind boy followed his master to learn the piano. His master told him that there was a prescription that could cure his eyes and allow him to see again, but this prescription could only be retrieved from the piano case after he had broken a thousand strings, otherwise it would be of no use. After his master died, the blind boy broke string after string, ignoring everything else in life. Through the passage of time, the young boy became an old piano master, respected by the villagers as "Shen Shen" (played by Liu Zhongyuan). Whenever there was a dispute in the village, everyone loved to ask Shen Shen to mediate. Shen Shen had a blind disciple named Shitou (played by Huang Lei), who was discovered having an affair with a village girl, Lan Xiu (played by Xu Qing), resulting in a severe beating from the villagers, and Lan Xiu angrily cut ties with him. As luck would have it, Shen Shen finally broke a thousand strings, hoping only to get the prescription and see the light as his master said. However, things took an unexpected turn.
