John Q. Archibald (played by Denzel Washington) is a factory worker struggling to make ends meet. As he works hard to provide for his family, the couple's relationship diminishes, leading to a marriage on the brink of collapse. The situation worsens when tragedy strikes their 9-year-old son, Michael. After several futile attempts to communicate with the hospital, the administration decides to remove them from the transplant waiting list. This enrages John Q, who, out of desperation, storms into the hospital's emergency room with a gun, taking innocent medical staff and patients hostage, demanding that the hospital perform surgery on his son immediately. This battle of morality and legality is more complex than it seems...
