Cai Weijie (played by Ah Niu), a Fujianese engineer, struggles to make a living in Singapore after moving from Malaysia. His fiancée, Zhi Xin (played by Jiang Ruolin), comes from a wealthy Cantonese family in Singapore, creating significant cultural and economic disparities that cause the couple much distress. The future father-in-law imposes strict wedding demands on his prospective son-in-law, and Weijie, fearing the consequences, agrees to organize a lavish wedding in Singapore. On the wedding day, all the red envelopes Weijie prepared mysteriously disappear, leading him to the casino in hopes of a lucky break, but he ends up losing everything. To cover up his blunder, he spins a web of lies that quickly spirals out of control. Zhi Xin notices her husband's odd behavior and becomes very angry. Weijie's father, Ah Shi (played by Chen Jianbin), has a heated argument with his son about the wedding plans, and in a fit of anger, storms off back to the hotel, only to encounter an unexpected accident on the way. Weijie's mood plummets from euphoric to despairing...
