Angel Devereux (played by Romola Garai) grows up in Nori. After her father’s death, her mother runs a small grocery store and their situation isn't affluent. However, she dreams of escaping it all and begins writing novels using her imagination, hoping to become a famous writer one day. Eventually, Angel's dream comes true; despite her many shortcomings, the publisher (played by Sam Neill) decides to publish her romance novel. Following this, Angel becomes an overnight success, publishing a series of romance novels. She begins to associate with the British upper class, dressing lavishly and living extravagantly. At a party, she meets Nora, who becomes her close companion, as well as her brother Esme (played by Michael Fassbender), with whom she falls in love at first sight. She moves into the dream villa of Paradise and lives a luxurious life, but can her delusions truly enrich her existence?
