The film "Butterfly on the Shoulder" is adapted from Fu Yupeng's online article "Do You Have Butterflies on Your Shoulders?"The story takes place on an island threatened by a deadly infectious disease. Renowned biologist Yan Guo (played by Chen Kun) is focused on his research, hoping to find a cure for the disease, but he himself is afflicted and his life is in danger. His fiancée Baobao (played by Jiang Yiyan) makes a contract with a mysterious being: to turn into a butterfly for three years in exchange for Yan Guo's recovery. Yan Guo regains his health but loses his lover, becoming melancholic and reclusive. The butterfly Baobao can only watch him sink deeper into despair, powerless to help. Yan Guo receives care from his neighbor Bailan (played by Gui Lunmei) and female journalist Yang Lin (played by Leung Wing-ki). Romantic feelings develop between Yan Guo and Yang Lin, which causes Baobao great pain. In the last year before Baobao can turn back into a human, an outbreak occurs on the island, and Baobao discovers the key formula for the cure Yan Guo is researching. The perilous journey leaves her wings battered, yet she refuses to give up. Can the injured Baobao bring the necessary herbal formula back to Yan Guo? Will she be able to become human again? Ultimately, who will Yan Guo choose?
