The famous actress Shen Yuzhi has a son out of wedlock, a secret that is reported to theater owner Ding Yuanshan by another actress, the arrogant Zhou Chuchu. Ding Yuanshan gives Shen Yuzhi an ultimatum: either send her son to an orphanage or immediately terminate her contract and leave the theater. As Shen Yuzhi is packing her things to leave, the haughty Zhou Chuchu comes to mock her again. Angered, Shen Yuzhi pushes Zhou Chuchu to the ground, causing her to hit her head on the corner of a table and bleed profusely, losing consciousness on the spot. Realizing she's made a grave mistake, a terrified Shen Yuzhi quickly flees the dressing room, leaving behind her lipstick case.
Shen Yuzhi prepares to leave Haicheng with her son Xiao Hu but is stopped by her boss Ding Yuanshan at the train station. It turns out Zhou Chuchu has died unexpectedly, and Ding Yuanshan can only plead with Shen Yuzhi to continue performing at the theater. Fearing that refusing Ding Yuanshan at this moment would raise suspicions, Shen Yuzhi reluctantly agrees to stay and continue acting.
The young police officer Ye Cang, responsible for investigating Zhou Chuchu's case, is Shen Yuzhi's former lover. Eight years ago, a tragedy left the Ye family in ruins, and Ye Cang quietly left Haicheng and Shen Yuzhi. Now, Ye Cang is the new captain of the Haicheng Criminal Investigation Team.
The theater staff member Liu Lichun mentions, intentionally or not, that she once found a lipstick case. Shen Yuzhi is alarmed, as she clearly understands Liu Lichun's implication. From then on, Liu Lichun begins a wild extortion scheme. Tormented, Shen Yuzhi decides to sneak back and retrieve the lipstick case, so she consults her friend Fang Yu and they plan to steal the lipstick case back from Liu Lichun's house. To stop Ye Cang, who is investigating, Shen Yuzhi talks about old times with him; meanwhile, Fang Yu discovers that Liu Lichun has already been killed, a dagger stuck in her chest! The two flee in terror, though a pair of feet behind a screen raises suspicions. Days later, while searching Liu's home, Ye Cang finds a blackmail letter and a lipstick case, which belongs to Shen Yuzhi. Ye Cang issues an arrest warrant, but Shen Yuzhi escapes first. To draw out the real killer, Ye Cang deliberately sets up to arrest Shen Yuzhi, leaving her devastated, while her friend Fang Yu is furious and informs Xiao Hu that Ye Cang is actually the son of Ye Cang and Shen Yuzhi. At this point, it seems all truths are revealed, but the reality is still concealed.
So who is the mastermind behind this trap? What shocking secrets lie hidden behind the serial murders? Is Shen Yuzhi innocent? Can she rekindle her romance with Ye Cang?
