A high school girl, Shin-chun (played by Kim So-hui), from a single-parent family, lives a mundane life with her mother, Yoon-hee (played by Kim Hee-ae). One day, Shin-chun receives a letter addressed to her mother. For some reason, she opens it and discovers it's from a woman named Junko in Otaru, Hokkaido. The letter contains somewhat ambiguous language that makes Shin-chun suspect a relationship between her mother and Junko. She asks her uncle and father about it, but the elders remain tight-lipped, hiding something. Subsequently, Shin-chun returns the letter to the mailbox, waiting for her mother to retrieve it. Upon reading it, Yoon-hee is overwhelmed, yet maintains a facade of calmness; she has sacrificed too much for this past. One night, Shin-chun shares her plans for a graduation trip to Otaru, Hokkaido, hoping her mother will join her. The distant Otaru, a place that haunts their dreams, where two women gaze at each other across the sea for twenty years...
