During the Warring States period, Qin King Ying Zheng (played by Li Xuekian) aimed to unify the world. At that time, the State of Yan became a source of concern for Ying Zheng. To help him achieve his unification goal sooner, Zhao Ji (played by Gong Li) devised a plan to feign an assassination attempt on Ying Zheng in Yan. This would provide Qin with a pretext to attack Yan, hoping for a possible surrender without a fight. Zhao Ji and Yan’s Crown Prince Dan (played by Sun Zhou) joined forces to plan the assassination of Ying Zheng.
