Chuck (played by Tom Hanks) works for FedEx as a systems engineer, and his job keeps his life busy, disciplined, and filled with a sense of urgency. Chuck manages to organize all his work in a tidy manner in his daily schedule, keeping time under his control. The only thing he neglects is his girlfriend Kelly (played by Helen Hunt). A plane crash changes everything. Everyone thinks Chuck has perished in the disaster, but in fact, he survives and gets stranded on a deserted island. Life on the island becomes difficult even for basic needs, and Chuck becomes a modern-day Robinson Crusoe. Yet, at the same time, he gains feelings he never experienced before through his dependence on nature, battling dangers, accompanying loneliness, and fighting hunger. When he returns to modern society, his life begins anew.
