In 1984, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher took a hardline approach to suppress the workers' movement, leading to the largest strike in history by miners. During that year's London Gay Pride parade, a group of gay men and women decided to actively fundraise for the striking workers. However, an awkward situation arose: the unions were actually embarrassed to accept their donations! This group of gays decided to bypass the unions and went directly to the workers' homes. They drove to a coal mining village in South Wales, bringing money and supplies to the workers' families. An unexpectedly warm connection formed between these two vastly different groups, leading to the most unlikely alliance under government oppression. "Pride" is based on true events, featuring not only historical footage of the workers' movement from the 1980s but also documenting one of the most touching chapters in British LGBTQ history. The transformation of these two groups from prejudice to acceptance, from misunderstanding to alliance, is filled with laughter and tears, evoking deep emotions. "Pride" won the Queer Palm at the 67th Cannes Film Festival and the Best British Independent Film award, and was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the 2015 Golden Globes.
