In England during the reign of Elizabeth I, there were various romantic entertainments everywhere, yet Shakespeare (played by Joseph Fiennes) was experiencing a creative block. His play, "Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter," was thus stalled. The appearance of Lady Viola (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) stirred up a tempest.
