Three siblings lose their parents in a fire and inherit a large fortune left by them. Due to their young age, they can only access the money once they reach legal age. Thus, the three siblings are temporarily taken to their distant relative Olaf's (played by Jim Carrey) house, where he will raise them. The oldest sister, Violet (played by Emily Browning), is a clever inventor, while the brother Klaus is knowledgeable and acts like a little scientist. The youngest child speaks in a way only her siblings can understand, with a sharp set of teeth. Unfortunately, the siblings fall into Olaf's trap, as this greedy relative has set his sights on their inheritance. They find themselves in peril over and over again, and it seems Olaf is determined to bring about their demise. They manage to escape to their uncle's house, who is a biologist, but it turns out to be filled with snakes, making it quite frightening. Even worse, Olaf follows them like an inescapable shadow. The three children continue to flee, and when they realize their aunt's house is also not a safe place, they decide to fend for themselves and confront the evil Olaf head-on.
