The story takes place in the early 1990s, as the once-glorious Zhongyuan Aircraft Factory reveals its heavy and weary state. A junior high school student, Qu Jing (played by Su Xiaotong), lives in the family quarter, and her father, Qu Zhicheng (played by Guo Xiao), is a somewhat old-fashioned and stubborn forensic expert. Although he often faces ridicule from his wife and mockery from those around him, he remains unwavering in his investigative style. In contrast, his colleague Zhang Shulin (played by Zhou Kui) has a rough style and a high case-solving rate, but inevitably has instances of coercing confessions. Qu Jing becomes friends with Zhang Shulin’s daughter, Zhang Xue (played by Lu Qiwei), whose overly flamboyant demeanor draws disdain from many. A petty action by Qu Jing leads to Zhang Xue vanishing into thin air in front of everyone. Just before this, a series of brutal rape-murder cases occurred locally. Every individual appears suspicious, and every dark and cold corner hides infinite potential for murder...
