The New York troupe is remaking "Swan Lake" due to the departure of former lead dancer Beth (Winona Ryder). Director Thomas (Vincent Cassel) decides to hold auditions for a new lead dancer, requiring the performer to embody both the Black Swan and White Swan. Nina (Natalie Portman) has practiced ballet since childhood, excelling under her mother’s careful guidance. This time, she hopes to stand out. However, she finds herself facing a strong competitor in the ambitious Lily (Mila Kunis). During the auditions, her White Swan performance is flawless, but her Black Swan is no match for Lily's. She feels exhausted and discovers red marks on her back and injuries on her feet when she gets home. Alone, she approaches the director to advocate for herself.
