The story takes place in the early years of the Republic of China, during a time of warlord conflicts in the north, with social unrest and difficult living conditions for the people. Against this backdrop, three young individuals, Wang Xu (played by Guo Zhui), Jin Zhengping (played by Luo Mang), and Yu Hansheng (played by Jiang Sheng), become refugees fleeing south. They arrive in a small town on the edge of the war, hoping to find a safe place. In this town, the wealthy heir Chen Zuguang (played by Lu Feng) is the leader of the local militia, controlling everything in the town. By chance, Wang Xu is pursued by Chen Zuguang's men while trying to help a female refugee. At this critical moment, he is fortunate to receive assistance from a woman named Hongling (played by Chu Xiangyun), who is a bold and beautiful courtesan. Hongling's beauty and courage deeply attract Wang Xu, and her appearance leads to a turning point in his destiny. As time goes by, Wang Xu, Jin Zhengping, and Yu Hansheng gradually adapt to life in this town, engaging in both overt and covert struggles against Chen Zuguang and his subordinates. Together with Hongling, they form a resistance force, striving to protect the ordinary citizens of the town and resisting Chen Zuguang's oppression and exploitation.
