This tells the interesting story of Emperor Qianlong (Liu Yong) and Hanlin Academy Grand Secretary and Left Imperial Censor Liu Yong (Li Kun) as they engage in a battle of wits. Liu is cunning and eloquent, often challenging Qianlong. Frustrated, Qianlong pretends to be tired while the portrait painter is at work, asking Liu to wear the dragon robe for the painter to depict him, and then deliberately creates difficulties, accusing Liu of having selfish intentions. Liu, quick-witted and articulate, once again leaves Qianlong speechless.
