Famous director Guido Contini (Daniel Day Lewis) is planning his ninth film, but after a previous box office disaster, he faces media backlash, with only female reporter Stephanie (Kate Hudson) refraining from attacking him. The producer continues to pressure him, but fortunately, his assistant Lily (Judi Dench) helps him out of difficult situations. He feels unwell, hiding in a hotel in Rome, listening to his wife Louisa (Marion Cotillard) comfort him over the phone while engaging with his mistress Carla (Penélope Cruz), still unable to escape the childhood shadows brought by his mother (Sophia Loren). During an audition with the big star Claudia (Nicole Kidman), he begins to reflect on the meaning of cinema... The film is based on Italian film master Fellini's "8½" and adapted from the 1982 Broadway musical of the same name. It received four nominations at the 82nd Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actress, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, and Best Song.
