"Carve Joy in the Voice of January" is an original project that started as an independent film, based on a "certain incident" that Mishima has been confronting for 47 years. Set in Nakashima on Lake Toya in Hokkaido, Hachijo Island in the Izu Islands of Tokyo, and Dojima in Osaka, the story depicts the emotional struggles surrounding "Reiko," an important presence in the narrative.
