In 1927, George Valentin (played by Jean Dujardin) is the best actor in silent films. Every time he takes the stage, he makes the audience burst into laughter. His beloved dog is the golden supporting actor, and the other actresses are relegated to the sidelines. During a media interview, he inadvertently encounters the incredibly attention-seeking Peppy Miller (played by Bérénice Bejo); although she steals the spotlight, he treats her with elegance. However, this headline overshadows his new film, much to the displeasure of his boss and the jealousy of his wife. Later, Peppy makes her way through Hollywood, and she has a chance reunion with George, which leaves him unsettled and causing him to repeatedly flub his lines. Subsequently, after a falling out with his boss, George decides to branch out on his own as a writer, director, and actor. Meanwhile, Peppy quickly rises to stardom thanks to the advent of talking films and becomes a leading star. Ultimately, his silent film clashes with her talkie release, igniting a battle between the old and the new, and a struggle between emotions and box office success... This film won the Best Musical or Comedy at the 69th Golden Globe Awards, with Jean Dujardin winning Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, and also won the Best Actor award at the 64th Cannes Film Festival.
