Japanese detective Yamamoto (Hiroyuki Sanada) encounters Hong Kong policewoman Michelle (Michelle Yeoh) who is escorting prisoner Li Zhongqing back to Hong Kong. Li's accomplices attempt to rescue him, resulting in both of them being killed by Yamamoto.
