Sen (John Wayne) is the leader of a beast-hunting troupe that travels the world capturing rare and exotic creatures to sell to zoos for money. Sen is a very humane hunter who never injures his prey during the chase; instead, he employs more troublesome but gentler methods. One day, while Sen and his team are hunting a rhino, a team member is unfortunately injured and urgently needs a blood transfusion, as he happens to have a very rare blood type. At this critical moment, a stranger named Chipps (Gérard Blain) appears, claiming to have a matching blood type, but in exchange, Sen must find him a position within the hunting troupe. Later, a photographer named Ann (Elsa Martinelli) also joins Sen's team.
