In response to the increasingly rampant terrorism after 9/11, U.S. President Henry Ashton (played by William Hurt) meets with leaders from Western and Arab countries in Salamanca, Spain, to forge a new anti-terror alliance. On this sunny day, the square is crowded with people from various social backgrounds, creating a noisy atmosphere. President Ashton’s motorcade arrives amid cheers and protests, with senior agent Thomas Barnes (played by Dennis Quaid), who was shot six months ago while protecting the president, at the forefront, vigilantly monitoring suspicious individuals around him. Unexpectedly, as the president is about to give a speech, two bullets hit him.
