The story begins on a train from Beijing to Fuzhou, where a girl with a pained expression attracts the attention of travelers Du Qiu (played by Zhang Chao) and Zhang Tongsheng (played by Zhan Jingbo). They want to talk to her, but find that she consistently avoids their questions. At a loss, they decide to seek the help of the train conductor. The girl becomes very frightened when she sees the police; thus, while everyone else is dozing off, she gets off the train early at Nanjing Station. After getting off, the girl wanders on the Yangtze River Bridge. It turns out that in a past calamity, her mother was killed and her father was arrested. Young and naive, she fell into many bad habits and associated with gangsters. Later, upon realizing her conscience, the girl decides to bid farewell to her chaotic past, but her past is unwilling to let her go. Just as she considers ending it all, Zhang Tongsheng appears behind her.
