The story takes place in the 1930s, during tumultuous times. Zheng Shixian (played by Feng Shaofeng), a young master of the Zheng Ji Shipping Company in Xiamen, encounters the beautiful and gentle embroidery girl Gao Shuhua (played by Tong Liya) in Taiwan. Zheng secretly marries Shuhua without informing his father and fiancée Luo Meifang (played by Sui Junbo), and after marriage, they have two lovely children, Yijun (played by Lu Ziyi) and Mingjie (played by Sun Tianyu). However, happiness is short-lived as Zheng's father (played by Kou Shixun) sends someone to bring his son back to Xiamen, pressuring Shixian to marry Meifang in order to save the declining family business.
