This film tells the rise and fall of the extreme leftist terrorist organization "Red Army Faction" in Germany during the 1970s. Led by Andreas Baader (played by Moritz Bleibtreu) and Ulrike Meinhof (played by Martina Gedeck), the German anarchist group "Red Army Faction" engaged in extreme leftist terrorist activities starting in 1972. Under the banner of combating the so-called "moral decay of the German state," the organization attempted to create a more humane societal system. However, they committed multiple acts of assassination, bombings, and kidnappings in a quest for violent retribution, rendering their notion of humanity non-existent amidst bloodthirsty terror events. The film is adapted from journalist Stefan Aust's bestselling book from the 1980s and received multiple awards, including a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards in 2009, a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 66th Golden Globe Awards in 2009, and a nomination for Best Actor at the 22nd European Film Awards in 2009.
