The story takes place in a small fishing village in Sicily, with all actors being local residents. "The Earth is Shaking" is a great film that emerged from the Italian Neorealism movement. In the picturesque Sicilian fishing village, fishermen have engaged in their ancient profession for generations, living according to their ancestors' ways, no matter how difficult the circumstances. They have long been oppressed by fishmongers and boat owners. Struck by the injustice they have suffered, young fisherman Nino unites with others to rise up against it, but they are arrested for disturbing public order. Nino refuses to yield and persuades his family to mortgage their home, starting his own business. However, during a storm, they lose their fishing boat. At a dead end, the young fishermen are forced to return to the fishmongers and accept their despicable conditions to work. They lost not only their families but also the unity among the villagers.
