This drama tells the story set in a Siheyuan in Beijing from the 1960s to the 1990s. He Yuzhu is a chef in a steel factory canteen, known for his kindness and loyalty but also for being outspoken, earning him the nickname "Silly Zhu." Living in the same courtyard is Qin Huairu, a steel worker who is filial and capable, with one son and two daughters, but her husband died in a work accident, making life quite difficult for her. The courtyard also houses Xu Damao, a selfish film projector operator at the steel factory, who is often at odds with Silly Zhu. Three respected old workers, referred to as the "Three Elders," also live in the courtyard and help resolve any neighborhood disputes.
