Simon (played by Steve Coogan) is a diligent and orderly civil servant who enjoys a structured life, but God seems unwilling to grant his wishes. By chance, Simon becomes the only eyewitness to a murder case, and to silence him, the killer begins to hunt him down. Worse yet, the police responsible for investigating the case are in cahoots with the killer, turning former allies into adversaries. To avoid a fate of being imprisoned and violently assaulted, Simon embarks on a journey of escape. To prove his innocence, Simon must obtain a videotape that documents the entire incident, which currently lies in a bank vault. Thus, Simon transforms himself into a bank robber intending to pull off the heist.
