"The Return of the Concubine" tells the story of the Qing Dynasty during the reign of Emperor Qianlong, where the concubine Liu Hua (played by Yan Xuejing) yearns for her hometown. The emperor grants her permission to return to the Northeast to visit her family. Disguised with her sister Yuxia, the concubine travels light and, after returning home, uses the ill-gotten silver she received to build bridges for the common people. However, she is reported to the authorities by a eunuch in her entourage. Fortunately, County Magistrate Tong (played by Pan Changjiang) risks his life to plead her case in court, and ultimately the corrupt officials are punished, restoring justice.
