Lily Franky challenges the role of a blind mollusk scholar, co-starring with a luxurious cast including Shinobu Terajima, Sosuke Ikematsu, and Ai Hashimoto in the Japan-US collaborative film 'Shell Collector'. A scholar famous in the world of malacology has separated from his wife and children to live a misanthropic life on a remote island in Okinawa. One day, a painter named Izumi drifts to the island, and after a rare disease afflicting him is accidentally cured by the poison of shellfish, the scholar's life undergoes a dramatic change. Directed by the award-winning Yoshifumi Tsubota; the painter "Izumi," who ends up living with the scholar on the remote island, is played by Shinobu Terajima; the scholar's son "Hikari" is portrayed by Sosuke Ikematsu; and "Shimako," the daughter of a powerful figure on the island who suffers from the same rare disease as Izumi, is played by the young and talented actress Ai Hashimoto.
