Mary (Maureen O'Sullivan) and Brick (Henry Fonda) are a young couple about to get married, and their relationship is very close. Brick is a taxi driver who spent a fortune on a taxi and decided to start a taxi company with his friend Joe (Alan Barkeste). Just the night before Mary and Brick are to marry, a terrifying robbery occurs in a cinema, where three robbers kill a cinema employee and flee in a taxi.
