The Morrison family moves to a small town in Australia. Father Simon (Erik Thomson) is a local military officer, mother Maggie (Toni Collette) is pregnant, the eldest son Charlie (Luke Ford) has autism, which manifests as speech and learning difficulties, unable to interact normally with others, and the youngest son Thomas (Rhys Wakefield) starts at a new school where he meets a beautiful classmate, Jackie (Gemma Ward), during his swimming lifeguard class. Thomas is reluctant to let his classmates know he has an abnormal brother, but unexpectedly, Jackie seems to not mind about Charlie at all. As Maggie approaches her due date, the burden on Thomas grows heavier, and with his relationship with Jackie developing, he hopes for a miraculous recovery for his brother Charlie. However, contrary to Thomas’s wishes, the arrival of a new sister makes the household even more chaotic, and Charlie’s condition remains unchanged. How can Thomas escape the shadows of his life?
