During the Anti-Japanese War, a group of outlaws gathered in the northern plains. Led by their leader Fang Youwang (played by Huang Xiaoming), they established an underground kingdom, living by robbery. One day, they kidnapped a bridegroom Gao Dongliang (played by Zhang Yi) who was on his way to get married. Unexpectedly, Gao Dongliang turned out to be a tough man, quickly winning over the entire gang with his courage and wit, becoming the "second in command." He developed feelings for the leader's sister, Fang Zizhen (played by Zhang Xinyi), and convinced Fang Youwang to confront the Japanese invaders, starting with the "Emperor's younger brother" who was kidnapped for inspection at the front lines.
