On July 20, 1969, American Neil Armstrong, aboard Apollo 11, successfully landed on the moon, taking a giant leap for mankind. Meanwhile, experienced astronaut Jim Lovell (played by Tom Hanks) and his friends and family closely watched this historic moment on television. Jim had previously flown near the moon aboard Apollo 8 and also hoped to achieve his dream of landing on the moon within his lifetime. This moment would soon arrive, as just three months later, Jim was appointed commander of Apollo 13, set to launch once again towards the moon with his partners Fred Haise (played by Bill Paxton) and Jack Swigert (played by Kevin Bacon). They were filled with hope, but little did they know that countless challenges awaited them... This film is based on true events and has won over 20 awards, including the 1996 Academy Awards for Best Film Editing and Best Sound.
