Located in the Cayman Islands of the West Indies, with swaying palm trees and crystal-clear waters, it’s just over an hour's flight from neighboring Miami. The island has a population of over 40,000, nearly half of whom are immigrants and traders from around the world. Among the colorful crowd, it's perhaps the best hiding spot for bankrupt Miami businessman Reedley (Bill Paxton), who fled with his daughter Pipa and a million dollars before the federal government came to demand the massive taxes he owed. Upon arriving on the island, Reedley’s first task was to seek out a bank that could help him launder the million dollars, unaware that his daughter was instantly captivated by the local thug, Fritz (Victor Rasuk). He also didn’t realize that Fritz’s powerful creditor—the local gang leader (Stephen Dillon)—had set his sights on him. Fritz's good friend, British fisherman Charles (Orlando Bloom), fell in love with local wealthy businessman’s daughter, Andrea (Zoe Saldana). Their passionate connection, despite the profound class divide, was discovered by Andrea's family. To punish the poor immigrant for tarnishing the family's name, Andrea's family brutally attacked Charles. Scarred and devastated, Charles lost both his lover and his hope for life, and his despair turned into a furious desire for revenge against the island’s corruption. This modern-day Romeo and Juliet tragedy took a different turn once Fritz entered the picture, leading to another tragic ending.
