Matty (Barry Pepper) is the son of Benny (Dennis Hopper), a powerful mob boss in New York. Benny hopes that Matty will inherit the family business and develop it into a family culture. However, Matty is born weak and timid; he cannot even pass the most basic test of joining the mob—killing someone. Reluctantly, Benny has to send his son back to society to live as an ordinary person. But soon, Matty discovers that due to his father's "reputation," he cannot survive on his own. With no other options, he returns to Benny's side. Benny assigns Matty a "safe" task—transporting a sum of dirty money.
