In 1975, Warsaw. 43-year-old Kapuscinski was an outstanding journalist, experienced and idealistic, a defender of revolution and the people's interests. At a news agency in Poland, he requested his superiors to send him to Angola, Africa. This country was embroiled in a bloody civil war on the brink of independence. Kapuscinski thus embarked on a suicidal journey straight to the heart of the war. He faced the brutality of war once again, experiencing a sense of helplessness for the first time. Angola brought about an unprecedented change in him: he was a journalist in Poland, but after returning from the battlefield, he became a writer.
