In the late 20th century, Rika Meze (played by Rie Miyazawa) becomes a full-time employee at Wakaba Bank and has just secured a high-value deal from the elderly Takazumi Hirabayashi (played by Renji Ishibashi), who lives alone. Still charming, she is highly regarded by her superior Inoue (played by Yoshimasa Kondo). However, Rika seems to harbor various dissatisfaction and repression within her. She has been married to her gentle husband (played by Seiichi Tanabe) for many years, yet they have never had children, creating a significant distance beneath their respectful exterior. After an encounter with Hirabayashi's grandson, Kouta (played by Sousuke Ikematsu), Rika's heart is stirred. She cautiously begins to chase after a dreamlike happiness, even reaching for the deposits of her clients. At the pinnacle of happiness, she and Kouta indulge in a reckless dream, but when the dream fades, the tower of happiness collapses... This film is adapted from the nameless original work by Mitsuyo Kakuta, which won the 25th Shibata Renzaburo Award.
