The story is set in a futuristic Japan, where the government has banned free love to address the declining birthrate, taking full control of the situation. Once a teenager turns 16, they are assigned a partner by the government as their object of affection, calculated to be the best match. Negishi Yukari (voiced by Ryota Ousaka) is a 15-year-old boy with an incredibly ordinary personality and appearance, but he harbors a secret: he has quietly loved a girl named Takasaki Misaki (voiced by Kana Hanazawa) since elementary school. However, this love is illegal in such a distorted society. Additionally, Sanada Ririna (voiced by Yui Makino) is the perfect girlfriend assigned to Negishi Yukari by the government. When she learns about the feelings between Yukari and Misaki, she decides to help them keep their secret and wholeheartedly supports their beautiful and pure love.
