A poor boy from Congo is self-sufficient, walking into the jungle with an ax. With extraordinary willpower, he single-handedly chops down large trees and produces charcoal using traditional methods. He fears no hardship, dreaming of a better life where he can build a cozy home for his wife and daughter. With only a bicycle loaded with heavy bags of charcoal, he pushes it on a long journey, hoping to sell it at a good price in town. However, the road is fraught with dangers; some people block the way to "collect fees," and customers drive a hard bargain. Human relations feel cold, and he prays to the heavens for a miracle. Photographer Jaha captures this life of charcoal selling, akin to Sisyphus pushing a stone up a hill, with outstanding imagery and documentary perspective. Winner of the Jury Award at the 70th Cannes Film Festival.
