The story takes place in the Edo period. In order to escape from unhappy memories, the beautiful and agile girl Akina (played by Haru) comes to work as a maid at her uncle Ibe's (played by Sano Shiro) bag shop, Misha-ya. She is hardworking and diligent, making everyone at Misha-ya quite pleased. By chance, Akina takes her uncle's place to receive a customer who has made a reservation. The customer appears anxious, hesitant to speak. Confident in her ability to help others, Akina takes on the role of listener. To her surprise, the customer begins to narrate a haunting and bizarre story about the "Flower of the Dead," the Manjushage. This marks the beginning, as over the following days, Akina hears and records one supernatural and eerie story after another (haunted houses, forbidden loves, magic mirrors, and eerie noises), and unknowingly becomes involved in them... The film is based on the original work by Miyabe Miyuki.
