Margo (Joan Crawford) is a moderately famous screenwriter who has just completed an outstanding script. Originally, actor Lester (Jack Palance) was set to play the leading role in the script, but Margo is very dissatisfied with this casting choice. Because of her opposition, Lester may lose this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. One day, Margo unexpectedly encounters Lester on a train, and this time, he presents himself in a charming and romantic way, leading Margo to question whether this man is truly the person she once knew. Soon, Margo and Lester fall in love and enter into marriage, but as time goes by, various hints make Margo begin to suspect that everything may be a trap.
